About Us
Team Nutrition is a national initiative designed to motivate, encourage, and empower schools, families and the community to work together to continually improve school meals and to make food and physical activity choices for a healthy lifestyle.
Team Nutrition is helping children in grades pre-K through 12 and their families to:

- Eat more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
- Eat lower fat foods more often.
- Get your calcium-rich foods.
- Be physically active.

Becoming a Team Nutrition School will help focus attention on the important role of nutritious school meals, nutrition education and how a health-promoting school environment plays a role in helping students learn to enjoy healthy eating and physical activity. It will provide the framework for team efforts by school nutrition staff, teachers, parents, the media and other community members.
Team Nutrition has three implementation strategies:
- Healthy School Meals that meet student expectations
- Nutrition Education that is fun and focused on behavior
- Support from school administrators, parents and other community leaders
All program materials encourage students to make food and physical activity choices for a healthy lifestyle.
As a Michigan Team Nutrition School, you will receive training and educational materials such as:
- Resource Kit (while supplies last) of materials to help you plan and carry out activities for your students and their families. Additional National Team Nutrition materials can be purchased from the National Food Service Management Institute (1-800-321-3054).
- TEAMTALK, an idea-filled newsletter for Michigan Team Nutrition schools.
- Cash grant program opportunities to assist their school in implementing Team Nutrition activities and events.
- Target your Team! A collection of ready-to-use marketing tools that includes such things as press releases, radio announcements, and menu-enhancement pieces.
